Tanzania or United Republic of Tanzania is an East African country, which is bordered by Uganda and Kenya to the north, Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique to the south, Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west and Indian Ocean to the east. The name of the country was derived from the names of the two states Tanganyika and Zanzibar, which was united in 1964 and was later in the same year was renamed to the United Republic of Tanzania. Known as one of the oldest inhabited areas on earth and is believed to be populated by hunter gatherer communities, which are basically Cushitic and Khoisan speaking people. The country comprises of 26 regions including the semi-autonomous region of Zanzibar and the official capital of Tanzania is Dodoma and Dar es Salaam is the principal commercial city of Tanzania.
